Lone Feather Farm
Lone Feather Farm (formerly Feather and Scale Farm) has been raising Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats since 2013, and making cheese as a licensed dairy since 2015. They have been a part of the Steep Falls Farmer’s market for many years, and love bringing their variety of cheeses and other goat’s milk products to market every week. Cheeses offered weekly are flavored chevre’s, mozzarella, ricotta, feta, cheddar (limited availability), and American style cheese. New varieties added as they develop. Goat’s milk and yogurt available, as well as handmade cheese filled pastas as time allows.
It all started with a life-long dream of having our own farm. In 2015, we moved from the city and bought a herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats and named our farm "Mini-Hooves Farm". Before long, our refrigerator was overflowing with milk—far more than we could ever drink. So, I took a “Cold Process Goat Milk Soap” class, and instantly fell in love with soap making. I dove into articles, blogs, videos, and marketing classes, and soon I was selling at farmers’ markets and craft fairs. Over the years, I refined my craft, now creating both all-natural soaps and fun, colorful, fragranced varieties. I use plenty of calendula-infused oils in everything from soaps and lotions to my current line of salves. All my soaps and lotions are made with goat milk from my herd of Nigerian Dwarf, Mini-Nubian, and Mini-LaMancha goats, which means there’s a lot of work just to get the milk into the house and frozen before it ever becomes soap or lotion. That’s why it’s not just “Sophie’s Soaps,” but “Sophie’s Soaps at Mini-Hooves Farm
